Housing Development

Dane County is committed to creating a variety of housing options throughout our community.  Dane County uses local funds as a means to leverage additional resources from project partners to create a variety of housing units.

The map above identifies all multifamily sites Dane County has awarded funding to since 2015.  Current housing development projects include the Affordable Housing Development Fund (ADHF), Fair Chance Housing Fund (FCHF), and Farmworker Housing Initiative (preliminary stages). 

Dane County Affordable Housing Development Fund (AHDF)

Notice of Funding Opportunity 

 

The Dane County Affordable Housing Development Fund (AHDF) was established in 2015. The purpose of the AHDF is to encourage the development of affordable housing throughout Dane County by using the fund as a means to leverage additional resources from project partners.

Since its inception in 2015, the AHDF has awarded over $40 million dollars to more than 45 projects, and supported the creation of 2,478 affordable units in Dane County. 

The 2024 Dane County Capital Budget includes $15 million in the Affordable Housing Development Fund.  Dane County Department of Human Services has issued an application for project financing. All application materials must be submitted by 12:00 p.m. CDT (noon) on August 5, 2024.

Dane County Fair Chance Housing Fund (FCHF)

The Dane County Fair Chance Housing Fund (FCHF) was established in 2023.  The purpose of the FCHF is to expand affordable housing options for households in which at least one individual has been criminal justice involved; meaning a household member has been formerly incarcerated or currently under probation, parole, or extended supervision.

The 2023 Dane County Capital Budget has dedicated $4 million to produce units for the Fair Chance Housing Fund.  In addition, the 2024 GPR budget dedicated up to $217,500 in operating funds for an applicant or applicant’s agency partner to provide supportive services for tenants in awarded projects. 

All application materials must be submitted by 11:59 a.m. CST on June 21, 2024.
