Intensive Supervision Services

The Intensive Supervision Program (ISP) is a program for delinquent youth operated by the Neighborhood Intervention Program or Briarpatch Youth Services. The program is designed to work with youth who have been adjudicated delinquent, are involved in community resources, and are in need of additional supervision and monitoring.

 

Eligibility & How to Apply

Youth between the ages of 10 and 17. All youth enrolled in the program are court-ordered. Youth participating in the ISP program are expected to want to make changes in their lifestyle. Parents are expected to support the program and work openly and honestly with the assigned ISP worker.

Referrals are initiated by the assigned Dane County Department of Human Services Social Worker.


Services

Accountability Services:

  • Monitoring school progress; attendance, grades, and behavior
  • Coordination regarding court-ordered community service and/or restitution
  • Maintaining contact with the youth's social worker and providing the social worker, judge, and attorneys with written progress reports monthly
  • Participation in team meetings as needed/requested

Community Protection:

  • Conducting random curfew checks (face-to-face and phone calls)
  • Using electronic monitoring for high-risk clients
  • Urinalysis
  • Parent contact to encourage follow-through, consistency, and development of new skills

Competency Development:

  • Employment skills training, including how to locate and maintain a job (ISP staff will maintain contact with employers)
  • Life-choice discussion groups focusing on cultural pride and sensitivity, anger management, decision-making, and criminal-thinking errors

Youth ordered into the Intensive Supervision Program (ISP) are supervised for a period of 3-12 months. The ISP worker determines the length of supervision based on each youth. Supervision length may change based on a youth's response to supervision.
