Did you know that the DCDHS CYF Division is the largest county run division in the State of Wisconsin of the 72 counties? Well, we are. Did you know that per capita Child Protective Services (CPS) has close to the lowest out of home placements in the state? Well, it’s true. Did you know that our youth voluntary Restorative Justice model that addresses potential formal felony charges is the first of its kind in Dane County? Well, it is.
CYF has significant child protective services and youth justice responsibilities with 180 dedicated FTE staff. Additionally, there are great LTE staff, student internships, multiple purchase-of-service contracts of community partners and court ordered services. A critical responsibility of the CYF Division is child protective services of children and youth from abuse and neglect including but not limited to preventative, voluntary and mandatory customer services of family and community engagement (FACE), Access, Initial Assessments (IA), Ongoing services, Social Service Specialist Unit, Targeting Safe and Stable Funds (TSSF), and Independent Living/Permanency Planning.
The CYF Division oversees services of youth justice and prevention (YJP) services of youth who are at risk of or are in the youth justice system. This includes prevention, mentoring, gang intervention services, community supervision, intervention, program coordinating, restorative justice and more. Coordinated and community customer services are provided by Early Intervention Services (EISU), Court Diversion (CDU), Intake, and Ongoing Units.
There are Office Support Staff that ensure daily on-site assistance to CYF staff and customers at three sites (NPO, SMO and YJP) and are crucial to the daily functions and services of the CYF Division.
